Film Development For 8/13/15: Mark Wahlberg Signs On For ‘Partners’, Kate Mara In For Megan Leavy Film, and More

HBO Does Not Need To Be Told How To Get To ‘Sesame Street’, as It Will Be There For the Next Five Years

Under a new partnership announced today by Sesame Workshop and HBO, the premium cable channel will carry the next five seasons of Sesame Street. PBS, the long-time home of the children’s program, will continue to air the show as well. The deal allows Sesame Workshop to produce almost double the content as in previous seasons and provide the show free to PBS and member stations after a nine-month window. (HTV)

Angelina Jolie Pitt Is Putting On Her Executive Producer Hat For a New YA Adaptation

The actress and director will executive produce an animated feature adaptation of Deborah Ellis’s YA novel The Breadwinner, about an 11-year-old Afghan girl who dresses up as a boy to work and support her family. Nora Twomey, who co-helmed The Secret of Kells,” will direct. Published in 2000, Ellis’ book is based on the author’s experience visiting refuge camps in Taliban-occupied Pakistan. (WAH)

NBC Hasn’t Given Up On Comedy Completely, as Tina Fey and Michael Schur Each Have New Shows Working There

The network has announced a 13-episode series commitment to a new half-hour from Parks and Recreation creator Schur, and a pilot order for a comedy project overseen by Fey and 30 Rock partner Robert Carlock. Both untitled projects are designed to be vehicles for as-yet-unnamed female stars. (VUL)

Spike TV Makes Good On Its Pledge To Re-Enter the Scripted World, Green Lights a New Series

The Viacom-owned cable network has handed out a 10-episode series order to drama Harvest, from exec producer Jerry Bruckheimer. The drama marks Spike’s first scripted drama series in nine years. Show centers on a father, working two jobs to support his teen daughter. When his estranged father tracks him down and threatens to expose a secret, he’s compelled to partner with him in a black-market tissue and body parts trade. (TLF)

Jimmy Fallon and NBC Are Sticking With Each Other For At Least Another Six Years

Network has given a six-year contract extension to their Tonight Show host to keep him in place through the fall of 2021. NBC Entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt announced the deal this morning as part of the network’s Television Critics Assn. press tour presentation. Fallon’s deal also includes some other programming components with NBC and Universal TV. (VAR)

A24 and David Goyer Team Up For a Brand New Horror Project

Phantom Four’s Goyer and his partner Kevin Turen and the indie studio on a high concept original horror film to be directed by Marc Munden. To be part of A24’s slate of films with Eva Maria Daniels of VisionChaos Productions, the film will be written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski, the duo who penned Akiva Goldsman’s Stephanie, currently in post-production from Universal. It is currently untitled. (DH)

Today In Reboot News: Will Smith Is Involved In a ‘Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air’ Update

Smith is onboard as a producer for the reboot and is beginning to shop around the reboot to various networks through his Overbrook producing group, which also includes Jada Pinkett Smith. Details are currently sparse, but NBC head Robert Greenblatt said that the Fresh Prince reboot isn’t currently happening at NBC, though he added that they would be open to conversations about the new series. The original ran for six seasons, ending in 1996. (COL)

Trailer Buzz: ‘Ride Along 2’

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for the upcoming sequel to the hit 2014 action comedy starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube. The two stars return for the sequel, along with Tika Sumpter, Ken Jeong, Olivia Munn and Benjamin Bratt, with Tim Story again directing. The film hits theaters January 15th. (EMP)
