In the planning stages for more than a decade, four time Academy Award nominated director Michael Mann’s Enzo Ferrari biopic appears to finally be moving forward. The film, simply titled, Ferrari, has found its leading man in Academy Award winner Christian Bale, and is now looking for buyers with the plan being to shoot next summer. (CS)
It Appears That ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ Might Have Just Found Its Director
James Foley has emerged as the frontrunner to take on the sequel, and might also end up directing the third film in the trilogy, Fifty Shades Freed. The question seems to be whether Universal and Focus will want to shoot the sequels back to back. The scripts, written by book author E.L. James’ husband Niall Leonard, are apparently both in to the studio. (SF)
The Dudes From ‘Mythbusters’ Just Sold a CIA Drama Based On Their Lives To CBS
Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage are expanding to scripted fare. The Mythbusters co-hosts/exec producers have set up a drama inspired by their real-life experiences. The untitled CBS drama, which has received a script commitment from the network, revolves around two Hollywood special effects artists who are recruited by the CIA to complete seemingly impossible covert ops missions by creatively using the most basic tools from their craft. Hulu Orders ‘Future Man’ Dystopian Comedy Pilot From Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg
The online sales giant and burgeoning streaming service has ordered a pilot for the half-hour comedy, about a janitor who saves humanity from extinction. The show’s title character — janitor by day, world-ranked videogamer by night — is tasked with preventing the elimination of the human race after mysterious visitors from the future proclaim him the key to defeating an imminent super-race invasion. With Wolverine Soon To Be In His Rearview Mirror, Hugh Jackman Prepares To Embark On a New ‘Odyssey’
The actor is in talks to star in the adaptation of Homer’s poem. No deal is in place yet, but the respective teams are talking about Jackman playing Odysseus, the Greek hero who makes the long voyage home to Ithaca after the fall of Troy. This 10-year journey sees Odysseus’ ship blown off course, which leads him and his men into a variety of adventures. Francis Lawrence is directing, with his Hunger Games writer Peter Craig at work on the script. (COL)
From the ‘Planet Of the Apes’ To ‘Skull Island’, Toby Kebbell Is Once Again Pulling Out the Motion Capture Gear
Kebbell is just the latest recruit for Jordan Vogt-Roberts monster movie, which already boasts Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson and Corey Hawkins among its cast, and may end up adding John C. Reilly, Tom Wilkinson and Samuel L. Jackson. The film, which aims to kick off shooting late in October in Hawaii, finds an expedition headed to the mysterious, misty island, with the explorers looking to unlock its secrets, including the titular giant ape.
