Seven Finalists Named To Compete For Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar
The group includes a critically acclaimed action-adventure, an epic Western, two gangster movies, and at least one title few, if any, awards watchers were predicting to contend: director Felix Herngren’s Swedish literary adaptation The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed out the Window and Disappeared. At this time of year, all eyes are on the best-picture prizes; otherwise, the media devote most of their energy on the “money categories” — i.e. acting. (Writers and directors get a little attention, if they’re lucky.) But in truth, the artisan races are often the most interesting. Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, Diane Keaton Re-Team To for Netflix’s ‘Divanation’
Members of The First Wives Club are reconvening for the feature from Netflix that will see the three actresses as a singing group that reconnects after a volatile split 30 years prior. Lisa Addario and Joey Syracuse wrote the script for Divanation, which will be produced by Brad Fischer, James Vanderbilt, William Sherak and Alan Nevins. (THR)
Black List Script Gets Itself a ‘Shades Of Grey’ Director, as Sam Taylor-Johnson Signs On To ‘Chappaquiddick’
Script by Taylor Allen and Andrew Logan details the 1969 car accident that killed his passenger, 28-year-old former Robert Kennedy campaign worker Mary Jo Kopechne, who drowned. Kennedy failed to report the accident to police until several hours later, which cast suspicion on the circumstances surrounding the incident. Story is described as a political thriller that chronicles the true story of the seven most dramatic days of Kennedy’s life. (SF)
‘Fargo’ Fans Will Have To Be Patient: Season Three Won’t Premiere Until 2017
Series show runner Noah Hawley said he doesn’t expect the new season before then. Hawley revealed that and a few other details about his plans for the third season during a postmortem conference call for the second season of the FX drama. The third season will be set in 2010, four years after Season 1, but will not include any of the first season regulars as primary players in the action. (VAR)
Another Houdini Project Enters Hollywood Mix, Courtesy Of STX, Bringing the Current Total To Three
Houdini has projects based on his life in development at Sony and Summit. Now STX has acquiring the movie rights to David Jaher’s The Witch Of Lime Street: Seance, Seduction and Houdini in the Spirit World, which delves into his quest to debunk Margery Crandon, considered to be one of the most gifted and accurate psychic mediums of the era. Andres Muschietti will develop, direct and produce the thriller from a screenplay by Jaher. (DH)
Trailer Buzz: ‘Eddie the Eagle’
Lionsgate has released the first look at the upcoming comedic biopic, starring Hugh Jackman and Taron Egerton. Directed by Dexter Fletcher, the film opens February 26th, 2016. (TP)
