Amazon Likes What It Sees, Renews ‘Bosch’ For a Third Season
Online giant has renewed the cop drama, based on the novels by Michael Connelly, which premiered its second season March 11th. Available to stream for Amazon Prime customers, Bosch stars Titus Welliver as LAPD detective Harry Bosch. Jerry Edgar, Amy Aquino, Madison Lintz and Lance Reddick also star. (VAR)
HBO Picks Up Gillian Flynn’s Drama Series, ‘Sharp Objects,’ Starring Amy Adams
Based on Flynn’s 2006 novel, story will follow a reporter fresh from the psychiatric ward who’s sent on assignment in her hometown to cover the murder of two young girls. Camille Preaker (Adams) moves back in with a hypochondriac mother she doesn’t speak to and a 13-year-old sister she barely knows before she finds herself identifying with the victims a little too much. Marti Noxon is writing with Flynn, who is also serving as executive producer. (IW)
‘Sicario 2’? It Looks Like It’s Happening, With All Three Stars Returning For Another Go Round
Molly Smith and Trent Luckinbill of production company Black Label Media, who backed “Sicario,” reveal the follow-up is well on its way. Initial reports pegged that the followup would focus on Benicio del Toro’s deadly assassin, and it seems he’s still very much the focus, but that the other leads — Emily Blunt and Josh Brolin — will also have roles. J.J. Abrams to Produce Adaptation of Greg Grunberg’s Graphic Novel ‘Dream Jumper’
Actor’s upcoming graphic novel is getting the animated movie treatment. Paramount has picked up the rights to the two-part tome with Grunberg teaming up with pal Abrams, who will produce the adaptation. Story follows a boy who discovers he can jump into other people’s dreams, but that power turns into a nightmare, literally, when his friends begin falling into an endless sleep and something in the dream world wants the boy’s abilities for itself. Today In Remake News: Shawn Levy Set To Re-Do John Carpenter’s ‘Starman’
Columbia Pictures’ movie will enter the 21st century with a new script from Arash Amel. Michael Douglas, who produced the original film, will also produce the remake alongside Levy. Story follows an extraterrestrial responding to NASA’s message to pay a visit to Earth. But when his ship was grounded by a missile, the Starman inhabits the body of a deceased man and kidnaps his widow in the hopes of traveling to a rendezvous with a ship from his home planet. (COL)
There Is Still a Lot Of ‘It’s Always Sunny’ To Come, as FXX Renews the Comedy For Two More Seasons
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has been renewed for seasons 13 and 14, it was announced today. With Season 14, Sunny will tie The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet as the longest-running live-action comedy series in television history. The previously-announced season 12 will premiere in early 2017. (CS)
Jim Parsons Has a Busy Week, Joins Ted Melfi’s ‘Hidden Figures’ For Fox 2000
A day after it was announced he would star in Man-Witch, the Big Bang Theory star has joined director Melfi’s film, as the head engineer at the Space Task Group at NASA. Story follows a team of unsung heroes in American history: African-American female math wizards who helped NASA win the space race. Octavia Spencer, Taraji P. Henson and Janelle Monae star, alongside Kevin Costner and Kirsten Dunst. (DH)
Trailer Buzz: ‘Search Party’
Focus World has released the red band trailer for the long-on-the-shelf comedy starring T.J. Miller, Adam Pally, Thomas Middleditch, Alison Brie and Krysten Ritter. Directed by Scot Armstrong, the film will finally hit theaters, on demand, and digital HD on May 13th. (SF)
