Even though summer movie season hasn’t hit yet, there’s still plenty happening in the month of April. If you’re in Los Angeles, the incredibly immersive Wizarding World of Harry Potter opens at Universal Studios Hollywood on April 7. You can drink your weight in Butter Beer, find the perfect wand or send a letter via the Owl Post.
Over on the East Coast beginning April 13 The Tribeca Film Festival will be held through April 24. The festival was founded in 2002 by Jane Rosenthal, Robert De Niro and Craig Hatkoff. In Brooklyn, a fun event entitled, the Disposable Film Festival will be held at Videology on April 27. It’s a celebration of films made on phones and with other nontraditional equipment.
On the film side, Disney is releasing the live-action heavy CGI The Jungle Book on Friday, April 15. The film was meant with a copious amount of excitement at Disney’s D23 convention in Anaheim. It’s also chance to pay homage to the talented Gary Shandling as he voices a scene-stealing porcupine Ikki in the Jon Favreau-directed feature.
Not to be outdone, TV is bringing it with HBO premiering Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley and VEEP all on Sunday, April 24. Word has it that Jon Snow may or may not be returning from the dead. On April 21 Inside Amy Schumer returns on Comedy Central. If you can’t wait, Comedy Central has posted a hilarious sketch featuring Schumer, entitled “Betsy Ross”, riffing on the hit Broadway musical Hamilton (view it here).
