The play premiered at the Queen’s Theatre in London in December 1999. It was also included in the book A Box of Alan Bennett, published by Profile in 2000, and produced on the radio on February 21, 2009 on BBC Radio 4, with Maggie Smith reprising her role and Bennett playing himself.  SSN Insight: Project reunites writer Alan Bennett with director Nicholas Hytner (Madness of King George, The History Boys, stage play of The Lady in the Van) and with Tom Rothman at the studio.
