Awards Spotlight: ‘The Voorman Problem’ Director Mark Gill & Producer Baldwin Li on Playfully Poking Fun at Religion

As one of the films that could earn an Oscar nomination for Best Live Action Short, their very funny The Voorman Problem features a psychiatrist who interviews a prison inmate who thinks he’s God, and gets a bit more than he bargained for in the process. The film has had a long, charmed life with connections to Cloud Atlas, The Hobbit, and a man whose current job involves holding up a House of Cards. (SSN)

Awards Spotlight: ‘SLOMO’ Doc Director Josh Izenberg on Finding The Story

The film’s subject, 69-year-old John Kitchin, used to be a doctor but now skates on the San Diego boardwalk and goes by the name “Slomo.” Izenberg’s 16-minute doc about the eccentric senior citizen is a fun, engaging, and thought-provoking look at a man who seems to be just where he belongs. (SSN)
