Around since 1909, the organization champions the “art of the people,” and also picks the best films, performances, writing, and directing of each year, though they have never been in lockstep with the Oscars. Here are a few examples.

Starting January 15th, a week from Thursday, the online streaming service has a slate that includes four drama, two comedy, one documentary and six kids pilots. Viewers will once again be invited to watch and provide feedback on the pilots.

The duo will actually co-write the script with Greengrass’ longtime editor Christopher Rouse, who doesn’t actually have a writing credit to his name. This is the first movie in the series that will not feature the work of Tony Gilroy.

The long-gestating adaptation of Shusaku Endo’s novel follows Father Rodrigues, a 17th century Portuguese Jesuit heading to Japan with a fellow priest to discover whether Rodrigues’s mentor has left the church. Andrew Garfield, Liam Neeson and Adam Driver also star.

Cynthia Addai-Robinson has joined the Warner Bros. thriller, about a mild-mannered accountant by day, lethal assassin by night. Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons and Jon Berenthal are also on board, and Gavin O’Connor is directing.

Accidental Love, the film will be released theatrically Feb. 20, 10 days after it is available on video-on-demand. The movie, from Millennium Entertainment, no longer carries Russell's name and is credited to director Stephen Greene.

The husband and wife team co-wrote the script for the comedy about a disgraced one-percenter, in which McCarthy will star and Falcone will direct. Universal has set an April 8th, 2016 date for the flick.

The first look at the action flick starring Samuel L. Jackson as the President of the United States, struggling for survival in the wilderness after a terrorist attack. Film also stars Ray Stevenson, Jim Broadbent and Felicity Huffman, but doesn’t yet have a US release date.
