Liam Neeson’s Particular Set Of Skills Drives Yet Another Box Office Win

The third and “final” installment of the Taken series grossed $40.4 million to easily come out on top over a week field of openers. Selma comes in second at $11.2 million, with Into the Woods taking third. (BO)

Another Sundance Film Sells Before the Festival Even Starts

Noah Baumbach’s Mistress America, starring Greta Gerwig and newcomer Lola Kirke, has sold to Fox Searchlight ahead of its Sundance premiere later this month. Baumbach and Gerwig co-wrote the script, as well. (TOH)

David Oyelowo and Lupita Nyong’o Circle ‘Queen Of Katwe’

Project tells the true story of Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi. Mira Nair is directing “Queen” from a William Wheeler script. Disney is planning to start shooting in the spring in South Africa and Uganda. (VAR)

Bradley Cooper Is Going To Add “Director” To His Already Impressive Resumé

The actor, who also produced his current hit film American Sniper, is looking to star in and direct Honeymoon With Harry. Robert De Niro, who has worked with Cooper in Silver Linings Playbook, Limitless and American Hustle, will co-star. (SF)

That ‘Star Wars’ Spinoff Film Will Be Needing a New Writer

In the wake of Michael Arndt leaving Star Wars: The Force Awakens last year, Gary Whitta has now left the still-untitled standalone film. Whitta had worked on the project for a year with director Gareth Edwards. The film is set for a December 16th, 2016 release. (COL)

From Script To an Actual Pilot: Fox Green Lights ‘Minority Report’ 

The project will be a female-led sequel to the Steven Spielberg-directed, Tom Cruise-starring 2002 film, and will take place 10 years after the events in that film. Show will follow a “precog” trying to get on with his life who hooks up with a detective haunted by her past. (UR)

Filmmaker Oliver Daly’s ‘Miles’ Short Is Being Re-Packaged as a Feature

The writer-director signed with WME, which is going to help him turn the cutting-edge short about the blurring of the boundaries of humanity and technology, into a full-length dramatic feature film. (DH)
