The First Swing Of the Axe Has Fallen, as Sony Shakeup Continues

Bob Osher, the head of Sony Pictures Digital, has been let go. The move was apparently months in the making and likely not a surprise to astute Sony watchers. That it happened the same week as Tom Rothman taking the reins from fired Amy Pascal shows that Sony is in full housecleaning mode. (THR)

After Literally Years Of Speculation and Rumor, Harrison Ford Is Finally Confirmed For ‘Blade Runner 2’

Director of the first film Ridley Scott will act as producer, as his schedule will not allow him to direct. Prisoners’ Denis Villeneuve is in negotiations to take over that job, which would see him working from a script by Hampton Fancher, co-writer of the 1982 original, who cranked out the words this time with Michael Green. Thanks To the Success Of ‘Arrow’ and ‘The Flash’, The CW Is Developing a New Superhero Spinoff Series

Show would star existing characters and actors from the two series, including Brandon Routh’s Atom, Victor Garber’s Dr. Martin Stein, Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold, and former Arrow star Caity Lotz in a new role. Additionally, three other major DC Comics characters never before seen on TV will be featured, though no word yet on which ones. Show is still in early stages of development. (COL)

Talk About Getting Medieval, With a Third Project Entering the Fray, We Have Three Dueling Robin Hoods!

Joby Harold, the scribe who architected the multiple installments of the King Arthur franchise with Knights Of The Roundtable with Guy Ritchie directing, is now out with Robin Hood: Origins, a gritty version of the rogue do-gooder. Meanwhile, Disney acquired the Brandon Barker spec Nottingham & Hood, a revisionist take on the legend, and Sony staked a claim with a pitch by Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott in the fall. (DH)

Original ‘Power Rangers’ Producer Forces YouTube To Pull Fan Film For Copyright Infringement

The bootleg film was producer Adi Shankar and director Joseph Kahn’s take on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, starring James Van Der Beek and Katee Sackhoff as former rangers who are contending with a bleak future controlled by machines. The 14-minute short film took the unrealistic and colorful world of the original Power Rangers series and made it all “gritty,” similar to other installments of Shankar’s “Bootleg Universe.” (EW)

‘Supergirl’ Series Adds a Writer, a Director and More Cast, Including a Major Villain

Arrow and The Flash EP Andrew Kreisberg has joined the show, while Glen Winter will direct the pilot episode. Chillier Leigh has joined the cast as Kara Zor-El’s foster sister Alex Danvers, and David Harewood will play Hank Henshaw, AKA Cyborg Superman. Network gave the show a series commitment back in September. (CBR)

New Look: ‘Daredevil’

Six weeks before its debut on Netflix, new images and a motion poster for the Marvel series, starring Charlie Cox, Rosario Dawson, Eldon Henson, Deborah Ann Woll and Vincent D’Onofrio. New details also emerge, such as that the series takes place after the events of 2012’s The Avengers, show will have a “PG-16” rating. Episodes are available for streaming April 10th. (TP)
