That ‘Robotech’ Movie Finally Has a New Studio Behind It, and Is Now On the Fast Track At Sony

After Hollywood Gang, a production company on the Warner Bros. lot run by Mark Canton and Gianni Nunnari obtained the rights to the long-in-development project in February, speculation as that it would remain at Warner, but now the film has moved to Sony, where it is seen as a potential franchise. Doug Belgrad, Michael De Luca and Matthew Milam will shepherd the movie at the studio. (COL)

Tom Ford’s ‘Nocturnal Animals’ Has a Pair of Oscar Nominees Circling the Two Lead Roles

Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams are the two actors looking at playing Tony and Susan, in which Susan receives a book manuscript from her ex-husband Tony, a man whom she left 20 years earlier, asking for her opinion. Joaquin Phoenix and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are also being mentioned for roles in the film, which is being produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov. (TP)

Technicolor Bows To Post Production Woes, Closes Doors Of Two Facilities

One of Hollywood’s storied postproduction houses is closing two of its facilities in the U.S. and UK, including the recently opened 20,000-square-foot office in Burbank. The closure comes less than a year after the venerable Todd-Soundelux post house closed its doors for good. (DH)

The director of the first film, which has totaled  $164 million domestic and $558 million worldwide, was open about her tussles with author E.L. James on the direction of the movie adaptation. Now, Universal is reportedly seeking a new writer to replace Kelly Marcel — author E.L. James herself is under consideration — as well as a new director for the sequel. (TOH)

Word has come down through the various grapevines that the Australian actor has met for one of the lead roles in the Star Wars standalone pic, which is already set to star Felicity Jones. Gareth Edwards is directing the pic, though plot details are still under wraps. It’ll hit theaters December 16th, 2016. (VAR)

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Has Cast Itself a Brand New Jubilee, and She Has a Real Superhero Name

Lana Condor joins other new casts members Alexandra Shipp, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Sophie Turner and Oscar Isaac, as well as the returning James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult. Why a Small Theater’s Antitrust Lawsuit Against AMC Could Have Big Ramifications To the Movie Business

One lawsuit claims that big chains have an inside track on a competitive advantage. In January 2014, Cobb Theaters filed an antitrust lawsuit against AMC Entertainment, the nation’s largest theater chain, alleging their tactics and practices amount to conspiracy to commit competitive harm. Last Friday, U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross denied AMC’s motion to dismiss, thus allowing the case to progress. (CB)
