Marvel Names itself a Show Runner For Its Upcoming ‘Luke Cage’ Show

Ray Donovan executive producer Cheo Hodari Coker has been hired as executive producer of the upcoming series on Netflix. Coker will reportly also write the first two episodes of the series, which will reportedly premiere sometime in 2016. Mike Colter has been cast in the title role, and will first appear in AKA Jessica Jones, which will debut on the online streaming service later this year. (NSA)

Good News, ‘New Girl’ Fans! The Fox Sitcom Just Earned a Fifth Season Renewal, Meanwhile …

The shooting schedule for the new season is more than a little wonky, as they have already begun shooting it to take into account star Zooey Deschanel’s pregnancy, which will not be written into the show. Star Trek star John Cho will guest star on the new season, while Damon Wayans Jr. will exit the show at the end of the current season. (CB)

FX Has Also Given a Fourth Season To ‘The Americans’

Cable network has renewed the Keri Russell-Matthew Rhys Cold War drama for a 13-episode fourth season, to premiere in 2016. Four episodes remain in The Americans‘ third season (the finale airs April 22). (TVL)

Warner Bros. Lands Hugh Jackman For Its Faith-Based ‘Apostle Paul’

The project is being developed at the studio for The Wolverine star to play the role of the Jewish man of God (also known as Saul of Tarsus) who crossed over to speak to the Romans and preach the word. Jackman would produce, along with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck under their Pearl Street banner. A screenplay is currently being penned by Matt Cook. Also producing are Jennifer Todd and Chris Clarke, who helped initiate the project. (DH)

While Edgar Wright Finds the Star Of His Next Film, ‘Baby Driver’, and His Name Is …

Ansel Elgort has closed a deal to play the lead in the film, which follows a talented, young getaway driver who relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. After being coerced into working for a crime boss, he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom. Wright will write and direct the film. (VAR)

Trailer Buzz, Part 1: ‘Mad Max — Fury Road’

The latest trailer for the upcoming George Miller action thriller is easily the wackiest, and promises plenty of action upon the film’s release, May 15th. Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Megan Gale, Hugh Keays-Byrne and Josh Helman all feature in the madness. (EMP)

Trailer Buzz, Part 2: ’Spy’

Melissa McCarthy’s action comedy, also starring Jason Statham, Jude Law, Allison Janney Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale, shows up with another new trailer, as well. Paul Feig wrote and directed the film, which hits theaters June 5th. (CS)

Trailer Buzz, Part 3: ‘Masterminds’

The new comedy from Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess stars Zach Galifianakis, Owen Wilson, Kristen Wiig and Jason Sudeikis is based on a real $17 million dollar heist and opens in theaters August 7th. (IW)
