Strategies For a Career In Screenwriting: Pushing Past Doubts To Be Daring

Filmmaker Pen Densham’s best-selling book on creative screenwriting, Riding the Alligator, is going abroad and is about to be published in Chinese by PT-Press. The Oscar nominated filmmaker, with 16 features and over 300 hours of TV under his belt, pulled the title of his book from his first job in entertainment where he had to ride atop a live alligator for a film made by his parents. Cary Fukunaga Returns To TV, Is Bringing Back To Life Long Dormant ‘The Alienist’

In yet another reminder of the lure of long-form television for filmmakers, the Emmmy-winner is resurrecting the stalled adaptation of Caleb Carr's hugely popular 1994 crime thriller at Paramount Television. He will executive produce and direct. Two A-list Hollywood screenwriters are also executive producing: Eric Roth and Hossein Amini. (TOH)

Good News For ‘Star Wars’ Fans Unable To Make It To Celebration Anaheim: It Will Be Live Streamed

Lucasfilm announced today that highlights and more than 30 hours of exclusive video content from Star Wars Celebration Anaheim will be officially live-streamed to a worldwide community of fans on StarWars.com. Launching with a live stream of the highly-anticipated kickoff panel featuring Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams and producer Kathleen Kennedy, the live stream will continue providing coverage throughout the four-day event. (CS)

Jennifer Lopez Is Getting Her Comedic Chops Sharpened For a New Project With Universal

After the success of their micro-budget thriller collaboration The Boy Next Door, J.Lo is teaming with the studio for Mothers I’d Like To…, a comedy pitch that will be developed as a star vehicle for the singer-actress. The pitch is based on an idea by Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, and the pitch will be written by Mark Perez. Lopez will produce through her Nuyorican Productions shingle, along with her producing partner Goldsmith-Thomas, and Benny Medina. (DH)

It’s Hiring Day Over At Bad Robot, and Now Tommy Harper Is the Company’s New COO

After working with the company topper J.J. Abrams several times over the years, Harper joins the shingle full time in a newly-created position. He will report directly to company founder Abrams and oversee daily operations, while also helping to create strategic initiatives. (VAR)

The Cast Of ‘How To Be Single’ Keeps Expanding as Another Actor Joins the Project

Workaholics star and co-creator Anders Holm is in negotiations to join New Line’s ensemble romantic comedy, alongside Alison Brie, Dakota Johnson, Rebel Wilson, Leslie Mann and Damon Wayans Jr., who are already on the call sheet. Based on the novel by Liz Tucillo, Single explores the lives of a group of single New Yorkers with different views and approaches to dating. Christian Ditter is directing. (THR)

The ‘Grand Theft Auto’ Movie May Have Just Added Bill Paxton To the Cast

The BBC production features Daniel Radcliffe as Sam Houser, aka one half of the sibling duo that has guided Rockstar Games and the Grand Theft Auto series to video game domination. Film’s story revolves around a specific period in the company’s history, when Rockstar and GTA were under fire from firebrand Florida attorney Jack Thompson, which is the part Paxton would play. MTV Is Bringing ‘Celebrity Death Match’ Back To Television … Again

Similar to past episodes, the brand new MTV2 pilot will be animated, and original Celebrity Deathmatch creator Eric Fogel (and Wasteland Entertainment) is behind the new pilot. This won’t be the first time Celebrity Deathmatch has come back from the dead. The original series ran in the late nineties up until 2002, producing 78 episodes. After the show was cancelled in 2002, it eventually made its way over to MTV2, which picked up Celebrity Deathmatch in 2005. (CB)

Trailer Buzz: ‘The Connection’

A new, extended look at the upcoming French thriller starring Oscar winner Jean Dujardin about the Marseilles drug connection of the 1970s that was first dramatized in the 1971 Best Picture winner, The French Connection. The movie hits American theaters May 15th. (EMP)
