In other shooting news, Mark Wahlberg’s Deepwater Horizon starts shooting, as well, as does Michael Bay’s Thirteen Hours and The Layover, starring Lea Michele, Kate Upton, William H. Macy and Alexandra Daddario. Meanwhile, a handful of projects also wrap principal photography, including November Criminals, starring Chloe Grace Moretz. (SSN)

It’s Promotion Day At CAA, and the List Of Lucky Staffers Is 20 Names Long

Three weeks after the exodus of a dozen agents to UTA, CAA promoted 20 staffers to agent or executive status in key departments across the agency. The move signals a focus on grooming talent from within the agency. In recent years, CAA has regularly promoted lower-level staffers to agent or exec status, often in groups of four, five or eight. The Rapid and Astronomical Rise Of Downhill Gleason Continues, as the Young Brit Joins Tom Cruise’s ‘Mena’

Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman will re-team with Cruise on the film, which is based on Gary Spinelli's 2014 Black List spec, which Universal dropped $1 million on in 2014. Brian Grazer is producing the thriller about TWA pilot Barry Seal, who was recruited by the CIA to provide reconnaissance on the burgeoning communist threat in Central America. Seal soon finds himself in charge of one of the biggest covert CIA operations in the history of the U.S. (TOH)

Joel Silver Nails Down New Funding For His Silver Pictures Entertainment

Canadian billionaire Daryl Katz is coming on board the venture, and will co-run the operation with Silver. Additionally, indie finance veteran Hal Sadoff has been named CEO of Silver Pictures. Katz is the founder and chairman of the Katz Group, one of Canada's largest privately owned companies, with a large foothold in the pharmacy, sports, entertainment and real estate sectors. (THR)

Jenny Slate and Ari Graynor Are Taking a Road Trip Together With FX

A new pilot will re-team Slate with Obvious Child writer/director Gillian Robespierre and writer/producer Elisabeth Holm. The pilot doesn’t have a name yet, but will center around Lou and Viv, two thirtysomething filmmakers living in New York City, and how their relationship as friends and creative partners evolves when they embark on a cross-country road trip together. The ‘Good Times’ Feature Adaptation Now Has a Writer

Black-ish creator Kenya Barris is riding high on his freshman sitcom about an upscale African-American family. Now, he has been set by Sony to write the feature adaptation of the groundbreaking sitcom about an African-American family on the other side of the spectrum, struggling in the Chicago projects in the turbulent 60s. Scott Rudin and Eli Bush are producing. (DH)

MTV Catches ‘The Fever’, Will Develop It as an Ongoing Series

Author Megan Abbott is developing a series based on her book, working with Sarah Jessica Parker’s Pretty Matches Productions, and producer Karen Rosenfelt (who worked on The Book Thief, The Devil Wears Prada and Twilight). Abbott will also write the pilot episode. The Fever follows a group of adolescent girls who begin to fall ill with a strange fever, symptoms of which include convulsions and foaming at the mouth. Trailer Buzz: ‘Ted 2’

The new, redder-than-red band trailer for the upcoming sequel from Seth MacFarlane, starring Mark Wahlberg and Amanda Seyfried. This is most definitely not safe for work, but it is uproariously funny. The movie hits theaters June 26th. (EMP)

First Look: ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’

Twentieth Century Fox and director Bryan Singer have released the first image of Kodi Smit-McPhee, who is playing the blue-skinned teleporter Nightcrawler. The film is currently shooting and will hit theaters May 27th, 2016. (SF)
