SSN Events Calendar: Avengers, Cannes, Produced By, Mad Max and More Heat Up the Month Of May

The summer movie season kicks off with a bang in May with Avengers: Age of Ultron and doesn’t stop there. Hot off of Tribeca, Maggie will also be released along with Mad Max: Fury Road, Hot Pursuit and others in the merry month of May. Not to be forgotten, it’s time as well for the freeways to be a little less congested as execs fly to France for Cannes. Aubrey Plaza Becomes the Latest To Join the Already Great Cast Of ‘Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates’

The actress has signed up to appear alongside Zac Efron, Anna Kendrick, and Adam Devine in the brewing comedy, which Jake Szymanski is set to direct from a script by Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien. Efron and Devine play two immature, hard-partying brothers who become desperate to find dates for a wedding and place an online personal add hoping to score a couple. They meet their match in a pair of ladies who party every bit as hard as they do. (CB)

Evan Handler Is Getting His Secret Agent On For a New Digital Series

Handler is set to star in The Analyst, a digital serial being produced by Cinelan, about the CIA’s terrorism finance tracking unit. Barbara DeFina will exec produce the project, which is based on an original story by screenwriter J.D. Zeik. Show, which will be 10 eight-minute real-time episodes, stars Handler as Kevin Mercer, a CIA analyst targeted by an unknown enemy as he navigates the murky, dangerous world of financial espionage. Pair Of Former Indie Execs Team Up For Brand New Shingle, and It’s a Cornerstone

Former Focus Features International boss Alison Thompson and Weinstein Co president of acquisitions Mark Gooder have partnered to form Cornerstone Films, a production-finance and sales company with offices in London and Los Angeles. It will make its sales debut at next month’s Cannes Film Festival focusing on pics ranging from commercial, wide releases to talent-driven projects from auteur filmmakers. (DH)

AwesomenessTV and YouTube Are Teaming To Make Movies Together Over the Next Year and a Half

The multi-platform media company, which serves the global teen audience, announced a partnership with the online broadcast forum to produce and create multiple feature length films with YouTube stars over the next 18 months. The movies will have their premiere on YouTube, with the first release anticipated to debut this fall. Following the release on YouTube, the films will be made available on other distribution platforms. (CS)

After Years Of Wondering, We’re Finally Getting Some Viewership Info About Netflix Original Series

Luth Research has gathered together a panel of Netflix subscribers in order to determine not just what they are watching, but when. Most of the information about Netflix’s original content is not necessarily earth-shattering. Daredevil, for instance, has performed very well. It was viewed by roughly 10 percent of subscribers, while House of Cards reached about 6.5 percent of subscribers over a 30 day period. There is info about several different series herein. (COL)

Meanwhile, Xavier Dolan’s Next Film Is Putting Together an Impressive French Cast, as Well

The Mommy director has lined up Marion Cotillard, Lea Seydoux, Vincent Cassel, Nathalie Baye and Gaspard Ulliel to make It’s Only The End Of The World. Adapted from Jean-Luc Lagarce’s play, Dolan’s new script finds a writer heading back to his hometown after 12 years away, intending to tell his family of his impending death. But any attempts to drum up empathy are scuppered by the feuding family members, with the clan showing a singular inability to listen and love. Distribution rights for the film are expected to be a hot commodity at Cannes. (EMP)

‘Don’t Look Now’, But Yet Another Classic Movie Is Being Remade

StudioCanal is revisiting the classic horror film with Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman of The Picture Company on board to produce a new iteration. Directed by Nicolas Roeg, the 1973 atmospheric supernatural thriller starred Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie as a couple grieving the death of their daughter. While in Venice, they meet two Catholic nuns, one of whom claims to be clairvoyant and is in contact with their daughter in the afterlife. The woman brings an ominous message from the afterlife, warning that their lives are in danger. (THR)

Trailer Buzz: ‘Mad Max — Fury Road’

Warner Bros. has released the final trailer for the upcoming reboot of the popular franchise. Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult star in the film from legendary director George Miller. It hits theaters May 15th. (TP)
