Redmayne will play Newt Scamander in the
Harry Potter spinoff film from author J.K. Rowling, who is making her screenwriting debut. David Yates, who directed the last four
Potter films, is on board to direct. Scamander is the Wizarding World’s preeminent magizoologist, who in his travels has encountered and documented a myriad of magical creatures, ultimately leading to his penning the Hogwarts School textbook

The actor would star in and also produce the project, from writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. Johnson would play Jack Burton, an all-American trucker who gets dragged into a centuries-old mystical battle in San Francisco’s Chinatown, a role originated by Kurt Russell. The original film, released in 1986, was directed by John Carpenter and also starred Kim Cattrall.

Sofia Coppola had been attached to the project for the studio, but has now left it because of the ever familiar “creative differences.” Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner are pushing on with the idea, with Caroline Thompson re-writing the script based on the classic Hans Christian Andersen tale, in which a young mermaid falls in love with a human prince and makes a tragic deal to live on land.

Vimeo has unveiled new tools that allow creators to charge for recurring content. IAC-owned company announced today the subscription features for its Video On Demand platform. Creators who use the ad-free service will now be able to charge a monthly fee for unlimited viewing.

Paula Patton is making a deal to join Sandler and David Spade in the Steve Brill-directed comedy that will be the second film in the multipicture pact Sandler and his Happy Madison shingle made with the streaming service. Scripted by Chris Pappas and Kevin Barnett, film is about two down-on-their-luck guys who decide to fake their own deaths and start over with new identities, only to find the people they’re pretending to be are in even deeper trouble.

The Showtime drama welcomes Miranda Otto, Sebastian Koch, Sarah Sokolovic and Alexander Fehling as series regulars in the upcoming Berlin-set fifth season. Picking up two years after her ill-fated tenure as Islamabad station chief, the new season finds Claire Danes’ Carrie working for a private security firm in Germany. Otto plays the current Berlin Chief of Station, who is working directly under Carrie’s CIA mentor, Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin).

Rumors began to fly yesterday that Netflix was testing ads on the streaming service in order to increase revenue after
Vice suggested it could be a possibility down the road. That suggestion was based on the fact that Netflix had begun testing ads for their own content with some users, which had been met with frustration. However, a Netflix spokesman was quick to refute any suggestion that Netflix would begin airing third-party ads.
