Bombastic filmmaker and producer is planning to adapt interstellar yarn Time Salvager, an as-yet unpublished novel by Wesley Chu. Story follows a convict called James Griffin-Mars, a man whose suitability for time travel sees him sent on a mission to recover the resources Earth needs to survive. Along the way he meets a scientist from the past who’s destined to die on an ocean rig. He brings her back to the future, turning them both into fugitives.

Die Hard star will headline a $56 million 3D Chinese-language war epic,
The Bombing, about Japan's aerial bombardment of the southwestern city of Chongqing in World War II. The film is due to be released early next year. Directed by Xiao Feng, the film will feature a host of big-name Asia stars, including South Korea's Song Seung-heon, Hong Kong actors Nicholas Tse and William Chen, and Chinese actor Liu Ye.

Sidney Kimmel Entertainment has acquired rights to the Alexis Coe non-fiction book
Alice + Freda Forever. Kent, who directed
The Babadook, will helm and will write the script. Berlanti Productions is producing, and SKE will develop it, finance the film and produce. The book tells the story of a budding romantic relationship between two young girls in 1892 Memphis, Tennessee that incited a sensational murder and shocked the nation.

Degrassi: The Next Generation will officially wrap after 14 seasons with its series finale this summer on TeenNick, the cabler announced today. The Canadian teen drama, which debuted in 2001, will close with a two-week finale event, kicking off with an hourlong special July 20th, followed by new episodes each day of the week, ending on July 31st with the final episode.

Spending on movie downloads and video streaming subscriptions in the U.S. will surpass purchases and rentals of DVDs for the first time this year, according to a report from PricewaterhouseCooopers. Electronic home-video revenue will climb 13% to $9.5 billion this year, while physical sales drop to $7.8 billion. By 2017, the electronic revenue will reach $12 billion, at which point it will exceed the U.S. film box office, according to the report.

Universal has released the first trailer for its mountaineering thriller, based on the real-life events of the catastrophe at Mount Everest in 1996. The ensemble cast includes Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley, Emily Watson, Elizabeth Delbecki and Jake Gyllenhaal, and hits theaters September 18th.

Fox Searchlight has released the latest look at the new drama detailing the fight for women’s rights to vote in early 20th century Britain. Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, Brendan Gleeson, Anne-Marie Duff, Ben Whishaw, Romola Garai, Natalie Press and Meryl Streep star in the film, which hits theaters October 23rd.
