Hacksaw Ridge, the next outing for Gibson as a director. Movie tells the true WWII story of Corporal Desmond Doss (Garfield), the first conscientious objector to receive the US congressional Medal of Honor after acts of bravery and sacrifice saving 75 men during the Battle of Okinawa. Vaughn will play Doss’ by-the-book drill sergeant.

Thanks to some persuasion by famed attorney and the film’s principal financier David Boies, the film has just been extricated from Relativity Media ahead of an expected Chapter 11 filing today. The original deal was for Relativity and The Weinstein Company to distribute together, with Relativity releasing September 4. When Relativity hit the rocks with its debtors, the attorney did his best to pull back the picture. It is not yet clear if TWC will now release the film.
