How To Approach ‘Confident-Beyond-Competence’ Executives as a Creative

Pen Densham has met some people in his film career who don’t know what they don’t know. They “do” know they are not doctors. So, they don’t invite you into their office and remove your heart to see if it works better when stuffed in your rectum.  But, when it comes to story they have no qualms about asking you to do that to a script, despite not being writers. Antonio Banderas Joins the Long List Of Movie Stars Heading To TV

Starz is developing Havana Quartet, a detective series set in the balmy island nation and starring Banderas, based on a Cuban novelist Leonardo Padura’s four-book series — Havana Blue, Havana Gold, Havana Red and Havana Black — series will focus on Mario Conde, a hard-drinking, romantic fella who longs to be a writer but settled for a job as a police detective. The network also renewed its pirate show, Black Sails, for a fourth season. (TVL)

In Other Starz News, Network Embraces Binge Culture, Will Release Entire Seasons Of Two Shows On Premiere Day

The model of releasing entire seasons simultaneously is continuing to gain popularity. Cable net has become the latest network to employ it for the third and final season of Da Vinci’s Demons and ballet-themed limited series Flesh and Bone. They will be available for Starz subscribers on Starz Play and Starz On Demand in the U.S. in conjunction with the premieres of their first episodes, October 24th and November 8th, respectively. STX Has Corralled Itself a Pretty Nifty Cast For Its Untitled Galactic Love Story

Studio has set Gary Oldman, Asa Butterfield, Carla Gugino and Britt Robertson to star in the film, to be directed by Peter Chesholm. Story is about two galaxy-crossed teens from different worlds: the first human born on Mars, who begins an online romance with a girl living in Colorado and hatches a plan to travel across the universe to meet her. Production begins this fall. (CS)

Lord and Miller Nab Themselves a Lead For Their New Hybrid Sitcom

In Son Of Zorn, a live-action/Animation hybrid series for Fox, Jason Sudeikis will voice the animated Zorn, an animated barbarian struggling to reconnect with his life-action family. Cheryl Hines, Tim Meadows, and Artemis Pebdani have also signed on. Johnny Pemberton will play Zorn’s angsty estranged teenage son. Son of Zorn will shoot an 8- to 10-minute pilot presentation for Fox this summer. (SF)

Lionsgate Is Moving Quickly On Its ‘Robin Hood: Origins’ Project, Has a Casting Short List

The list of contenders includes Nicholas Hoult, Jack Huston, Taron Egerton, and Jack Reynor, with The Maze Runner star Dylan O’Brien also believed to be under consideration for the lead role. Joby Harold, who wrote Guy Ritchie’s upcoming Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur, penned the screenplay, which Leonardo DiCaprio is producing through his Appian Way banner. (COL)

Sony Pictures Classics Believes In ‘Truth’, Schedules an Awards Season Release Date

Prestige studio is giving an Oct. 16 awards-season release to the Cate Blanchett-Robert Redford drama, which centered on the Dan Rather scandal. The film chronicles Mary Mapes and Dan Rather uncovering allegations that George W. Bush may have been AWOL from the U.S. National Guard for over a year during the Vietnam War, but it was later found CBS had failed to authenticate the documents. (VAR)

Daniel Radcliffe Will Once Again Be Testing Out His American Accent For His Role In ‘Imperium’

The British actor will play an FBI agent in the film, based on the real-life story of Michael German, an FBI agent who spent years undercover in neo-Nazi and militia groups in the States. In the film, the character based on German will be similarly embedded, trying to stop a bunch of chaos-happy white supremacists constructing a dirty bomb. (EMP)

Magnolia Pictures has released the first trailer from the upcoming documentary about the history of National Lampoon. Featuring appearances from Chevy Chase, Judd Apatow, Kevin Bacon, John Landis and many more, the movie hits theaters and VOD on September 25th. (EW)
