After breaking out with the film, Boyhood, Ellar Coltrane will join Tom Hanks and Emma Watson in James Ponsoldt’s The Circle. The film is being produced by Hanks and Gary Goetzman for Playtone, Anthony Bregman for Likely Story and Ponsoldt. IM Global is handling international sales with U.S. rights by UTA Independent Film Group and CAA. (VAR)

Warner Bros. Adding Hammerspace To Their Tool Shed As Potential Franchise Property

Warner Bros. has picked up the spec Hammerspace from writer Mike Van Waes in a mid-six figure deal and are eyeing it for a franchise. It centers on a terminally-ill teen who finds a portal to an alternate animated dimension, releasing an unexpected new friend who helps him repair his broken family. (DL)

MGM announced the British director has signed on to the adaptation of Terry Hayes’ espionage bestseller, I Am Pilgrim. The book follows the retired head of a covert group who is called back to action to save America from oblivion.
