Netflix’s National Lampoon Origins Movie Adds Yet Another Talented Funny Man
Thomas Lennon, who stars opposite Matthew Perry in CBS’s remake of The Odd Couple, has joined the cast of the tragic story of National Lampoon co-founder Douglas Kenney, A Futile and Stupid Gesture. Will Forte is starring as Kenney alongside Domnhall Gleeson as fellow co-founder Henry Beard and Joel McHale as Chevy Chase. The feature starts shooting later this month, with David Wain in the director’s chair. (THR)
On the Eve Of Disney Releasing Its Live Action ‘Jungle Book’, Andy Serkis’ ‘Jungle Book: Origins’ Is Pushed To 2018
Warner Bros. has moved Serkis’ directorial debut in a new round of schedule shuffling. The movie has already seen one release date change, but the thinking is the new shift will allow memories of the current version to dim. Serkis has recruited the likes of Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hollander, Matthew Rhys and Naomie Harris to provide the performance capture for the various animals, and will play Baloo himself. Meanwhile, Warner Makes Other Big Schedule Changes, Moves Up ‘Wonder Woman’, Grabs Two More DC Dates
The movie will arrive in theaters sooner than expected, having been moved up from June 23rd, 2017 to June 2nd, 2017, where it will now square off directly against Sony’s likely R-rated Bad Boys 3 and the kid-friendly Captain Underpants. Also, the studio set dates for two untitled DC Extended Universe films on October 5th, 2018 and November 1st, 2019, leading to immediate speculation that the latter would be for Ben Affleck’s potential standalone Batman film. Take Heart, Sherlockians! The New Season Of ‘Sherlock’ Has Begun Shooting In London
The BBC is reporting that filming for series four of the multi-award-winning hit drama produced by Hartswood Films, has started. Sherlock will return to screens with three brand-new episodes, once again starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. Series four begins with the nation’s favorite detective, the mercurial Sherlock Holmes, back once more on British soil, as Watson and his wife, Mary, prepare for their biggest ever challenge – becoming parents. ‘The Boys’ Drama Based On Comic Book Set At Cinemax With Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Eric Kripke, Original Film & Sony
After bringing Garth Ennis’ Preacher to the screen with the upcoming AMC series, Rogen, Goldberg and Neal Moritz are tackling another dark and violent comic book by Ennis on cable television. Cable net has put in development a show based on the Dynamite Press comic, from the Preacher team of Rogen and Goldberg’s Point Grey, Moritz’s Original Film and Sony TV. (DH)
TBS Loves Being In Business With Jason Jones and Samantha Bee, Renews ‘The Detour’ Before It Even Premieres
A week after the network also renewed Bee’s Full Frontal, it has now given a 13-episode second season to Jones’ sitcom, which also stars Natalie Zea and is scheduled to premiere Monday. Jones and Bee, both former Daily Show correspondents, are married to each other and both are executive producers of each other’s shows. (VUL)

A few months ago, Alan Rickman passed away at the age of 69, and today it has been revealed that his death led the cancellation of a planned sequel to the 1999 comedy/science fiction classic Galaxy Quest. In a new interview, original cast member Sam Rockwell revealed that Galaxy Quest 2 almost happened, but Rickman’s death and other factors caused the whole thing to come undone. (SF)
