Brad Pitt Might Just Be Going To ‘Africa’ With His Director Wife

Angelina Jolie has already directed her husband in the upcoming drama By the Sea, and now is preparing for her next project, Africa, written by Oscar winner Eric Roth. Pitt is in talks to play the lead in the biopic about Kenyan Richard Leakey, who came from a line of archaeologists, but turned his attentions to paleontology and most famously to anti-poaching efforts. Long In Development ‘Passengers’ Finally Gets Itself an Oscar-Nominated Director

Morten Tyldum is signing on to helm the sci-fi project, based on a Jon Spaihts script detailing a love story unfolding aboard a cargo spaceship destined for a far-flung planet. That romance is kicked off when a male passenger is awoken 90 years before the rest of his slumbering crew, leading to him waking up a female passenger for company. (GR)

Nickelodeon Is Becoming the Latest Network To Get Its Own Standalone Subscription Service

The kid-entertainment giant intends to follow the example of HBO and unveil a direct-to-consumer subscription service in February. More details about the service will be revealed when Nickelodeon hosts its “upfront” meeting with advertisers next month. U.S. TV networks try to sell the bulk of their ad inventory in the upfront market, and TV networks that cater to children typically lead the salvo. (VAR)

Now known as Wet Hot American Summer: The First Day, the project from David Wain and Michael Showalter has added Jon Hamm, Kristen Wiig, Chris Pine and Jason Schwartzman. Apparently, Hamm will play a secret spy, Wiig is playing a snobby counselor at the preppy rival camp Camp Tigerclaw, Schwartzman is the boy’s camp head counselor while Pine’s character is described as “mysterious.” (COL)
