The studio has hired writer Peter Hedges to adapt the project, which won’t won’t be a direct adaptation of the classic 1940 film, but likely closer to the original 1883 version by Carlo Collodi. That’s a darker version of the tale of a boy made of wood who desperately wants to be real.

Despite a weak domestic take, the movie made over $200 million worldwide, and so the producers of the video game that spawned the film, Electronic Arts, is meeting with Chinese financiers to see about another installment in the potential franchise. There’s no word yet on whether any of the cast from last year’s first film – which included Aaron Paul, Imogen Poots and Michael Keaton – will return.

The two companies have announced that they will continue to remain a powerhouse team by renewing their deal through 2017. The deal includes at least two
Star Wars movies, five Marvel films, a pair of Pixar flicks, the next
Pirates of the Caribbean, as well as
The Finest Hours,

Alice in Wonderland.

Created and written by Mark Millar with art by Frank Quitely, story takes a multigenerational approach to tell a story of the offspring of superheroes who haven’t lived up to the standards of their parents, who first got their powers in the '20s after the discovery of a mysterious island. Millar also created the comics that led to
Kick-Ass and
Kingsman: The Secret Service. Di Bonaventura is currently meeting with writers.

A remake of the
Pygmalion-inspired rom-com, which starred Freddie Prinze Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook, is in the works, with Kenny Leon directing and Spike Lee's wife producing. The Weinstein Company is behind the venture and is expected to put a fresh spin on the story.

A follow-up called
Undisclosed: The State V. Adnan Syed, will dive even deeper into the case from "an investigatory perspective instead of a narrative one," according to the official website. Koenig's original true-crime podcast investigated the 1999 murder of Baltimore teenager Hae Min Lee and investigated Lee's ex-boyfriend Syed's conviction of first-degree murder.

Along with the news that Joe Manganiello is joining the cast of Netflix’s long-awaited sequel comes a series of on-set photos from the project. Paul Reubens returns as his signature character. No release date has been set, though the film will premiere on the online streaming service.

Fox Searchlight has released the first trailer for its Sundance hit, stars Thomas Mann, RJ Cyler and Olivia Cooke and will be in theaters June 12th.
