HBO Doesn’t Waste Any Time, Renews ‘Veep’ and ‘Silicon Valley’ After Sunday’s Premieres

This means all of HBO’s current Sunday night programs are officially set to come back next year. Game of Thrones, which debuted its fifth season Sunday, has already been renewed through through Season 6. And John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight is set through 2017. Veep creator Armando Iannucci will not be returning for the show’s fifth season. (SF)

Sanford Panitch Leaves Fox To Take Over as Sony’s Head Of International Film and TV Division

Newly appointed Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman worked with Panitch for two decades when Rothman ran Fox’s film division. Panitch served as president of Fox International Productions, a division of 20th Century Fox, and was highly regarded for his ability to make local-language content that appealed to diverse foreign markets.  (VAR)

Relativity EuropaCorp Just Made a Really Fantastic Hire

Candice McDonough is joining the company as executive vp theatrical publicity. She joins the joint venture after 14 years at New Line Cinema, where she most recently served as senior vp of publicity and corporate communications. During her tenure at New Line, she worked on Wedding Crashers, Horrible Bosses, We're the Millers and The Conjuring. (THR)

So Now Michelle MacLaren Will NOT Be Directing That ‘Wonder Woman’ Movie For Warner Bros.

The director and the studio parted ways over “creative differences,” with the studio releasing a statement that, “Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together.” No word on any potential replacement, but the film is still due in theaters in 2017. In Other Female Superhero News, ‘Captain Marvel’ Lands Writers Of ‘Guardians Of the Galaxy’ and “Inside Out’

Marvel is in the midst of enlisting screenwriters Nicole Perlman — who co-wrote Guardians — and Meg LeFauve — who penned the upcoming Pixar film — to work on the script. The pair is not a writing duo, but rather are being put together because Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was impressed by their separate takes and believes that they can work together to create something very special. Crackle Becomes the Latest Online Service To Get Into the Hourlong Drama Game

Dennis Quaid will lead The Art Of More, alongside Christian Cooke. Drama explores the underbelly of premium auction houses. It follows a blue collar young man who leverages his way in to this exclusive existence by exploiting his connections to antiquities smuggling rings he was exposed to as a soldier in Iraq. Written by Chuck Rose and Gardner Stern, Crackle has given it a 10-episode order. (DH)

Bryan Singer’s Next X-Men Movie Adds Even More Actors To Its Already Enormous Cast

Olivia Munn and Ben Hardy have joined the cast of X-Men: Apocalypse, with Munn playing the character of Psylocke, and Hardy as Angel. Both characters previously appeared in X-Men: The Last Stand, with Mei Melancon playing the former and Ben Foster the latter. The film starts shooting this spring and will be in theaters May 27th, 2016. (TP)

Cannes Announces Its Opening Night Film, and It’s Kind Of a Big Deal

La Tête Haute, was directed by Emmanuelle Bercot and stars Catherine Deneuve. Astonishingly enough, this marks the first time that the festival has opened with a film directed by a female director since 1987, when Cannes kicked off with Diane Kurys' A Man in Love. (IW)
