ABC - New Series Orders
SSN Insight: Shondaland to the rescue! Thanks to Shonda Rhimes’ How to Get Away with Murder, along with her stalwart Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, ABC is alive and well. Upping their diversity in a big way has also kept them afloat with hits like Black-ish and Fresh Off the Boat. They’ve decided to keep that trend going with orders for Ken Jeong’s Dr. Ken, Uncle Buck with an African-American family and The Real O’Neal about a gay son. And let’s not forget Disney, which supplies them with their fanboy fair. There was news of a spin-off with Agents of Shield, but the network decided against it, instead renewing Agent Carter and Agents of Shield. They’re also placing an expensive bet on Of Prophets & Kings, tapping into the faith-based market that’s served The History Channel well.
