The a capella sequel scored more in its opening weekend than the first film did in its entire 2012 domestic run, while the debut of
Mad Max: Fury Road came in second with $44.4 million. Forty-six percent of the action film’s grosses came from 3D sales. Meanwhile,
Avengers: Age of Ultron did another $38.8 million for third place, and is now the year’s highest grosser, with a 17-day take of $372 million.
Hot Pursuit finished a distant fourth, with $5.8 million.

A few weeks ago, reports had circulated that Lynch was backing out of the project over budgetary concerns, but now the legendary director is back in the fold, something he confirmed on Twitter. He will direct every episode of the series, which he co-wrote with co-creator Mark Frost, and now word comes down that there might be more episodes than the originally announced nine.

Law will play the American pope in Paolo Sorrentino's first-ever television series
The Young Pope for HBO
. All eight episodes will be directed by Italian filmmaker Sorrentino and written by him in collaboration with Tony Grisoni, Umberto Contarello and Stefano Rulli. The series revolves around a fictional American pope who becomes the most conservative one the Vatican has ever seen, and is set in the U.S. and the Vatican.

Garcia, who is Latin America’s biggest indie film producer-financier, is getting into the prestige business by launching AG Capital, an equity-backed fund that will fully finance films in the $5 million-$25 million range and co-produce films above $25 million. AG Capital will operate in a similar high-end space to Megan Ellison’s Annapurna and Molly Smith’s Black Label Media.
