The online streaming giant has acquired worldwide distribution rights to the upcoming Kevin James comedy The True Memoirs of an International Assassin. The sale, which is in final negotiations, is a formidable coup for Netflix as it continues to build on its reputation in the realm of distributing original films. (VAR)

The 2014-15 TV Season Finally Has Itself a Winner, and the Peacock Is Once Again Strutting

Though the season is not officially over for another three nights, the Comcast-owned NBC looks to have clinched the top spot among adults 18-49 for the second year in a row – by a Super Bowl XLIX  hair. With the big NFL game on its schedule this year, the network drew a 2.4/8 rating among adults 18-49 for the 2014-15 TV season compared to CBS’ 2.3/7 result, as the latter network took the viewership championship again. Tojo Studios Are None Too Happy With the Anne Hathaway ‘Colossal’ Project

The film being shopped to buyers in Cannes is causing a monster legal battle. The rightsholders of the Godzilla franchise, the Japanese company Toho, have sued Voltage Pictures over the film Colossal, which stars Anne Hathaway playing a woman who realizes her mind is strangely connected to a giant lizard destroying Tokyo. It's described as Godzilla meets Being John Malkovich. In fact, it is Godzilla, says Toho, which filed a complaint today in court. (HESQ)

ABC’s new Shondaland Series, ‘The Catch’ Is Recasting Two Major Roles

The characters played in the pilot by Bethany Joy Lenz and Damon Dayoub will be recast for the ongoing series, which will premiere in the fall. The show, which stars Mireille Enos as an elite fraud investigator who ironically finds herself the victim of a long con perpetrated by her fiance Kieran. In the pilot, Dayoub played Kieran and Lenz played Kieran’s actual wife. (TVL)

‘Jack Reacher 2’ May Have Just Found Two New Writers and a Director, Too

Ed Zwick is in talks to helm the film, which he would rewrite with longtime partner Marshall Herskovitz. The first draft of the project — said to be based on the 18th novel in the Reacher series by Lee Child, Never Go Back — was written by Richard Wenk, and now star and producer Tom Cruise’s The Last Samurai director appears ready to jump on board. Get Ready For a Movie About the Brontë Sisters, Courtesy Of the BBC

Veteran British TV writer Sally Wainwright will make her feature directorial debut with the two-hour BBC1 drama. To Walk Invisible: The Bronte Sisters will center on Charlotte, who penned Jane Eyre, and Emily, who wrote Wuthering Heights, and their two other siblings — their younger sister Anne, who wrote The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, and their brother Branwell, who died of alcoholism and drug addiction — and their autodidact father. Trailer Buzz, Part 1: ‘Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials’

Twentieth Century Fox has released the first trailer from the upcoming sequel to last year’s hit film, based on the popular YA trilogy. Once again directed by Wes Ball and starring Dylan O’Brien, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Kaya Scodelario, Giancarlo Esposito, Ki Hong Lee, Rosa Salazar and Jacob Lofland. It opens September 18th. (COL)
