The online streaming service announced plans to produce Pitt's new satirical comedy,
War Machine, loosely based on Michael Hasting's bestseller
The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan. Written and directed by David Michôd, the film will follow Pitt's "four-star 'rock star' general" as he commands American troops in Afghanistan. Netflix plans to release the film in theaters and exclusively to its streaming members in 2016.

Studio won a heated bidding war for the rights to
Uprooted, the new fantasy novel from Hugo Award-nominated Naomi Novik, the author behind the dragon-laced
Temeraire book series. Making a rare foray into features with the tome is DeGeneres, who will produce the adaptation with Jeff Kleeman, her partner at A Very Good Production banner. Warners beat out Lionsgate and Fox 2000 for the book, with dealmaking happening over the weekend.

A bidding battle that had four studios contending ended with the studio and
San Andreas producer Beau Flynn acquiring screen rights to
The Thrifty Time Traveler’s Guide, a book series being written by screenwriter Jonathan Stokes. Deal was mid-six figures against seven. Stokes pitched studios last week, with an idea that is in the vein of
Goonies and
Night At The Museum, with a time-travel twist. Stokes will write the script and the hope is to hatch a franchise.

Three-year deal has Rudin developing and producing television projects for Fox Broadcasting, FX Networks and National Geographic Channel. All projects developed for Fox will be produced by Twentieth Century Fox TV, and those developed for FX Networks and National Geographic Channel will be produced by FX Productions.

Jason Goldberg, who with Ashton Kutcher created one of MTV’s signature series, has partnered STX Entertainment for what would be a series of movies — currently untitled — around the $5 million budget range that would ideally be released around April Fool's Day. The new studio founded by veteran executive Robert Simonds, does not yet have an international distribution apparatus, so it is in talks with Warner Bros. to distribute the films outside the U.S.

ZeptoLab and Blockade Entertainment are developing an animated feature based on the popular mobile game about a little green monster who demands candy. Tentatively titled
Om Nom, ZeptoLab and Blockade plan to have the
Cut the Rope movie in theaters next year. Originally launched in 2010, the
Cut the Rope series of games has been downloaded over 700 million times to date.
