Studio is reviving its doomed live-action adaptation of the
Akira manga, this time with some Marvel blood. Ramirez has been tapped to pen a new screenplay adaptation of the project. For those unfamiliar with
Akira, the source material takes place in a post-nuclear apocalypse version of Tokyo and revolves around the rivalry between two young men, one of whom misuses his telekinetic abilities.

Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux, writers on animated comedy
Bob's Burgers, have signed on to work on the project. The sisters are the second writing team to board the project, as the studio also has Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs, who are working on Comedy Central’s buzzy
Broad City. The studio liked a pitch from the Molyneuxs, so it is moving forward with dual-track development, in which both writing teams are working on separate scripts.

Just days after its cancellation in Canada on MTV the show has found a new life on Netflix. "Degrassi graduates to Netflix. Meet the
Next Class, coming in 2016," the U.S. video streamer said this morning on its Twitter account. Netflix and Canada's Family Channel have ordered 20 episodes of
Degrassi: Next Class, the latest incarnation of the franchise from Canadian indie producer Epitome Pictures.

The Independent Filmmaker Project is out with the list of projects for its annual yearlong fellowship for rookie filmmakers. The teams behind the 10 narratives began their first week of sessions yesterday at the Made in NY Media Center. The projects cover genres ranging from sci-fi, fantasy, drama to young adult, comedy, horror and hybrid. Deadline has the full list.

Robert Zemeckis is directing the film, which centers on two assassins (Pitt, Cotillard), who fall in love during a mission in Casablanca to kill a German ambassador. The duo marry, but domestic bliss is cut short when Pitt’s character, a French-Canadian, is informed his wife is a double agent working for the German government and he must kill her. Steven Knight wrote the script.
